Choose Flooring Color in Your Own Light
Choosing flooring color is easier when you compare it with the surfaces that will stay in your home. Start with cabinets, countertops, wall colors and furniture, then narrow the flooring material to one that suits the room. A beautiful color cannot make an unsuitable product right for a wet area or a particular installation.
Start with Light, Medium or Dark
Light floors can create a bright backdrop and soften the contrast with pale walls. Medium tones often provide a flexible starting point when you have a mix of furniture finishes. Dark floors create stronger contrast with light cabinetry and trim. None of these choices is automatically better for a small room: daylight, wall color, furnishings and the amount of visible floor all affect the result.
Think about everyday appearance, too. Pale dust and pet hair can stand out on dark flooring, while dark debris may be more noticeable on a light surface. Grain, pattern variation, sheen and the color of the debris matter as much as whether a floor is light or dark. No color eliminates the need for cleaning.
Compare Undertones, Not Just Color Names
Two products described as gray can look very different beside the same cabinet. One may lean blue or green; another may have a warmer beige cast. Oak looks can range from golden to pinkish, neutral or smoky. Product names and small website swatches are useful for shortlisting, but they are not a reliable substitute for samples.
- Place flooring samples beside a cabinet door, countertop sample and painted wall.
- Look for undertones that work together rather than trying to match every surface exactly.
- Compare a few finalists at once. Too many samples can make subtle differences harder to judge.
- If you are keeping existing wood furniture, compare its tone and grain with the proposed floor.
Three Product Looks to Explore
Coreproof Spirit XL Balanced Oak is one wood-look option in JV’s vinyl catalog. Use its room image to assess the overall direction, then compare a physical sample with your finishes. The product’s 8mm description refers to its overall construction, not an 8mm rigid core alone.

Coreproof Alpha22 Spritz Cedar offers another wood-look direction to compare. Look beyond the dominant color: the contrast between boards, grain markings and surface sheen will influence how busy or quiet the finished room feels. Confirm the current product specifications and availability before ordering.

If you prefer a stone-look surface, compare Coreproof DecoTile UMA with the wood-look options. Its format and pattern create a different visual rhythm. Our DecoTile collection guide explains the construction and availability considerations.
Check Samples in Your Own Lighting
Place samples flat on the floor instead of judging them only upright under showroom lights. View them in daylight and again with your evening lighting. Check the brightest part of the room and a shaded area. If the flooring will continue into adjacent rooms, compare it in each space.
Ask to see more than one plank or a larger display when a design has noticeable variation. A single small sample may not show the full range of grain and color. Screens, photographs and lighting can also shift the appearance, so approve the actual product and color before the order is finalized.
Use Roomvo to Narrow the Choice
Start from JV’s flooring options page and use its Room Visualizer to compare available looks in a room image. Visualization can help you judge contrast and the overall direction of a design. Treat it as a planning aid, then confirm the choice with physical samples; it does not guarantee an exact color match or prove that a product is suitable for your room.
Confirm the Material Before Ordering
Once you have a shortlist, compare the product requirements as carefully as the color. Our vinyl flooring buying guide and laminate selection guide explain construction, moisture limitations and installation considerations. Browse the luxury vinyl collection to explore more options, then ask JV to confirm availability, the installation scope and the quantities needed for your project.
